In this theme, we examine the findings of the hundreds of landscape preference studies that have assessed preferences for the landscape. The theme covers only those studies that are based on measuring the preferences of people for landscapes.
It does not cover physical landscape studies, of which there are many, which assess landscape quality based on pre-determined factors. Such studies decide on a set of factors, generally derived from one or two previous studies, and then measure their presence and significance in the landscape.
